This is a dramatic improvement over it's predecessor. The plastic blade guides place the edge against the grinding surface in a much more accurate and consistent angle than the magnetic guides in the previous generation. It provides what it advertises, fast sharpening to a very consistent edge.

The sharpener is great. This is the second one I have owned. The first one was a cheaper model and it lasted around ten years with moderate use. For best results the first time you sharpen a knife make sure you use the first stage an appropriate amount of times . I have around twelve different knives I keep sharp with this sharpener. I do have one sushi knife that I cannot sharpen with this sharpener because of the angle of the bevel on the knife. The knife is to expensive to change the angle of the bevel.
